Infusing grandeur into otherwise drab Monday mornings with five things/ideas/events for the week:
I. Yesterday, a friend sent me a text about how excited she was to take a Bonbini Macaron Cooking Class in the afternoon. Immediately jealous and dying to join her (macrons are insanely difficult to make), I was disappointed to find out that the classes book up weeks in advance. Patience is particularly difficult for me, but it will be worth the wait. The possibilities for homemade macarons are endless - gifts, party favors, towers, and the occasional post-salad treat. My mouth will be watering in anticipation until I get to take my class.
II. Wandering around Fillmore Street in Pacific Heights is one of my favorite ways to spend an afternoon. Given my obsession with all things space science, you can imagine my delight when I spotted a spacesuit through the window of a new men’s clothing store called Ministry of Supply. Elle editor Joe Zee sums up the line perfectly as, “the future of fashion.” A combination of engineers and a design director who formerly helmed Theory and Brooks Brothers created shirts that are climate controlled using spacesuit technology (think no more sweat stains), wrinkle-free, and made to move with your body for comfort. The store is having a March Madness theme party on March 28th from 3-6PM. Stop by to see the magic for yourself.
III. Springtime means days spent outside under the sun. There’s little I love more than reading my newspaper and sipping morning coffee in the courtyard of my apartment building. While I feel incredibly lucky to have any outdoor space at all, I can’t help daydreaming about the private deck I’ll have someday. Years ago, when I had a deck, I was underwhelmed by the weather-proof furniture market. When I found this picture, I loved the thought of taking southwestern chic from inside out. After a little research, I hunted down the woven basket chairs (which come in an array of gorgeous colors) and an affordable cow steer skull. So tempted to purchase them now…
IV. Can you believe that it’s already St. Patrick’s Day tomorrow?! I’ll be skipping the green food coloring in my cocktail, and make my Beer Braised Shredded Chicken Tacos instead. In lieu of Corona, I’ll use my favorite Irish beer Harp Lager. The tacos are one of the easiest dishes on my blog, and also one of the most delicious. Make extra chicken to put over brown rice or arugula with avocado later in the week.
V. I’m excited to invite you to the Rooms That Rock 4 Chemo happy hour fundraiser on April 1st at Jaxson (an adorable new country bar in the Marina). RTR4C is a volunteer organization that transforms depressing chemotherapy treatment rooms at hospitals worldwide into brighter more comfortable places for patients battling cancer and other illnesses. The goal of the evening is to raise $5,000 for supplies, and sign up volunteers to “rock” a room in a single weekend. Grab your ticket soon, we are set to sell out!!
Have a wonderful week! xx tt
